Description
1095 Knife steel is synonymous with knife making, which is popular with both stock removal and forgers as 1095 is a great steel to get started in the world of knife and tool making. Capable of higher hardness with decent toughness and a not too difficult heat treatment! Our 1095 is made again in Steel City -Sheffield from over 90% recycled materials. The mill that melts the steel also off sets its carbon which makes this steel more environmentally friendly than steels that are imported.
It is a great stand-alone steel which can produce decent hamons or paired with High Nickel content steels such as 15N20/75Ni8 to produce Damascus steel, where the 1095 layers will become darker and the high Nickel layers will resist the acid etch to stay bright. Since 1095 is a High Carbon steel, it will rust if not properly taken care of. The finished blades should be cleaned and oiled after use to avoid corrosion.
