Description
1084 knife steel is a great knife steel suitable for beginner makers right through to seasoned professionals. A good combination of toughness and wear resistance with easy forging. This steel can be easily heat treated at home. 1084 knife steel can be paired with various steels with high Nickel content such as 15N20/75Ni8 to make damascus , where the 1084 layers will become darker and the high Nickel layers will resist the acid etch to stay bright. Since 1084 is a High carbon steel, it will rust if not properly taken care of. The finished blades should be cleaned and oiled after use to avoid corrosion.
